YESTERDAY
The Matinecock Native American tribe first inhabited the area of Bayside in 2000 B.C. English colonists came to settle the area in the late 17th century. Into the mid-18th century, settlers relocated from Flushing and began a farming community called Bay Side. The Bayside-Little Neck area encountered raids by whale boatmen off of the Connecticut shores during the Revolutionary war. It was mid-20th century urban sprawl in New York City that caused development of the farmlands there.
Many actors and actresses, like Rudolph Valentino, lived in Bayside in the 1920s. It was around this time that more people were inhabiting the area from the theater and movie industries. When it was rumored that Bayside would be the location of a new movie and production studio, many actors bought homes in the area. However, the studio did not materialize. During the 1920s, many actors migrated to California when Hollywood became the movie industry capital at that time.
